OCHA (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs):
HAITI - JOINT DONOR ALERT: GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF HAITI AND UNITED NATIONS
With the ongoing earthquake and cholera outbreak responses, Haiti is now facing three emergencies at the same time as, since 4 November, the country suffers the impacts of Hurricane Tomas. This donor alert focuses on immediate response to the hurricane. While the impact of the hurricane so far has been less severe than foreseen, flooding and landslides have already created additional humanitarian needs throughout the country, due to the great vulnerability of Haiti to extreme weather conditions. In addition, the poor sanitary conditions in many parts of the country, combined with flooding and polluted waters, are very likely to accelerate the spread of cholera.
Based on the projected impact of this storm, in combination with the ongoing cholera outbreak and post-earthquake needs, the Government of Haiti and its international partners are hereby calling on the international community to continue their support to Haiti.
Existing stocks are deemed insufficient and additional emergency supplies and equipment will be needed. Priority needs identified include emergency repair kits and reinforced emergency shelter kits, family hygiene kits, water kits, oral rehydration salts (for treating cholera), water tankers, water bladders, water treatment units and field tents to serve as emergency cholera treatment centres, as well as logistics equipment and radios to support ongoing operations and public information about cholera and hurricane warnings. → A more detailed listing is attached!
