Help raise awareness of human rights issues
Do you take human rights for granted where you live? Can you lead a free and fulfilling life secure in the knowledge that you have the right to speak your mind, the right to legal representation and the right to be treated in a dignified way? After all, why shouldn’t you be able to take these rights for granted? Why shouldn’t you take for granted the right to protection from arbitrary arrest, abduction or torture?
Sadly, for millions of people around the world these rights are not the reality. They do not know what it is like to live without fear and without want.
You don’t have to go far to find them: human rights abuse happens everywhere. In every country in this world, there are people who suffer human rights violations. But unless you belong to the “wrong” group (social, ethnic, religious, or other), you might not notice.
At OHCHR, we produce and disseminate a lot of information on human rights. Most of this information
targets stakeholders and experts who work on the issue. But the public must also be targeted strategically to garner global support. We simply do not have the resources to cover this need fully; we must prioritize the victims.
Therefore, we seek help from companies with public relations expertise to raise awareness of human rights issues and spread the message that we are all responsible for respecting and implementing human rights in our societies.
In particular, we would like to hear from you on how we could cooperate to raise awareness on any of the following six thematic priorities:
1. Discrimination – as part of the OHCHR’s campaign “Speak out – Stop Discrimination”
2. Rule of law and impunity
3. Poverty and economic, social and cultural rights
4. The rights of migrants and their families
5. Human rights in armed conflict
6. The importance of human rights institutions and organizations
Help us engage people in one of the most fundamental aspects of a civilized society – because nobody can afford to be complacent about their rights!
